Everything You Need to Know About Ada Hantu di Sekolah
IDEAS
Ada Hantu di Sekolah, which means "Ghost at School" is the first horror genre show in Kukila. Every corner of the school has stories about horror experiences, which we collected and packaged into a podcast show.
However, in terms of demographics, those who enjoy horror content are more predominantly males. Kukila and the team are trying to formulate how women, especially Gen Z, can enjoy horror content.

We aren’t only creating horror stories. We also involve the audience to share stories of horror experiences from our listeners via email at adahantudisekolah@gmail.com User-generated content allows listeners to participate in podcast growth instead of being only listeners.
Involve audiences means opening up conversations between a podcast show and listeners, and this level of podcast interaction helps build and grow an engaged community. We are grateful to have a relationship with our listeners to drive more audience loyalty.
Relatable
The horror experiences presented in the "Ada Hantu di Sekolah" podcast try to adapt from real-life experiences by students.
Creating relatable horror content enhances the audience’s emotional connection and encourages a more immersive and engaging experience. When horror feels close to reality, it can be a powerful and memorable storytelling tool.
Thematic
We divide it into several varied story pillars to be accepted by our target audience, such as Extracurricular Activities, School Organizations, Study Tours, and School Dormitories.
Thematic horror stories allow us as creators to explore a variety of settings, situations, and fears. This diversity broadens the appeal of the horror content, attracting a wider audience with different interests and preferences within the horror genre. It allows us to experiment with various themes, combining them uniquely to produce innovative and original horror content.
Genuine
Ghosts in Indonesia are diverse.
Therefore, we are committed to producing ghost sounds without taking ghost sound samples from the Internet. This allows us to control the relevant horror ambiance for each story.

Identity
We aimed to create a unique audio identity that would be memorable and make our podcast truly stand out.
The idea was born from a desire to evoke fear and horror through audio. We were inspired by the distinct voice of the Kuntilanak ghost and decided to adapt its identity. However, we took a unique approach by incorporating phrases that involve direct interaction between the ghost and the listener that imitates the haunting call of the Kuntilanak, whispering, “Sini… Sini… Sini…” means “Come here… Come here.. Come here.. “. The jargon easily leaves a lasting impression through our horror podcast.

Everything we did in Ada Hantu di Sekolah was about making it enjoyable. We want to share horror that isn’t meant to be super scary or cruel. Instead, it’s designed as content you can easily listen to, like a friendly companion while you do your daily activities.

We use ghost illustrations for each cover, created with pencil-like strokes to make our horror podcast show stand out. We mainly rely on orange hues instead of the typical dominant red. The Si Muka Rata episode cover is one of my favorites because of the intricate details. I have to admit that I was scared while illustrating it, as I had to convey a realistic impression of a shattered face.

Taking on the challenge of lending my voice to “Ada Hantu di Sekolah” has been a refreshing experience for me. It has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and explore new opportunities beyond my usual work with romance podcasts. The memorable moments are when I get to embody characters like the Devil, Grandfather, and Gendruwo – it’s a real challenge. Imagine having to produce screams, hoarse sounds, and gasps for breath; Each character should be convincingly brought to life in every episode.

One of the most impressive things is selecting the appropriate background music and sound effects that do not overpower the scene. A classic school bell is one of my favorite and most memorable sounds. I believe that the art of selecting the perfect background music and sound in a horror scene is an ideal method of building a sense of terror.
